what’s next?

The Plan

step 01

After you reach out to me through the CONTACT page, I’ll reach out via email, text, or phone call. We’ll discuss your vision, location, and specific photographic needs. You will sign a contract, pay a deposit, and we will start planning all the details.

Our Session

step 02

It is important that you arrive on time for your session. But once there, time is merely a suggestion. Since we’ll have everything planned ahead of time, all you have to do is have fun, enjoy every moment and be yourselves.

The Memories

step 03

In general, you can expect to receive your final images anytime between one to two weeks after our session. You will be able to download high-resolution digital photographs, or order prints at an additional cost, straight from your on-gallery.

What time of day should we choose?

Sometimes we can't control the timing of a session, but if we are outdoors there are two options that give us the best lighting: early morning or late afternoon. The timing of this changes seasonally, so let's talk and find out what works best for you and your personal session.

PICK A LOCATION

There are so many fantastic outdoor spaces in Central Ohio. Some of my favorites are our metro parks, nature preserves, hiking trails, public gardens, and local orchards and pumpkin patches. We will discuss several options during our consultation, as well as any suggestions you have. If I have not already explored an area of interest to you, I will scout it out in advance so that we can be prepared to have the best possible session.

What should I wear?

Wear what makes you happy and comfortable. You will look your best if you feel good in your clothes. Tried and true advice, beyond this, is stick to plain, solid colors that don't pull too much attention and aren't too busy. Unless this is a prom session, then let's go big and get that beautiful dress in all of its glory. Always consider the session location and weather when choosing your outfit and footwear.

how long will it take?

The short answer is, as long as it takes. You will have my undivided attention and I won't leave you just because the clock runs out. My time with you is important. However, I have found that most people wear out around the forty-five minute mark, and small children need lots of fun play breaks. Full sessions average forty minutes to an hour, half sessions average fifteen to thirty minutes. Sports Team sessions take about five minutes per player plus time for team pictures. Sports Individual Sessions are longer, around thirty minutes for one player.

what if it rains?

Sometimes weather happens and we have no control. Depending on the session type and location we have several options. Sometimes it's as simple as relocating to a covered bridge or under a large tree. Other times we can play in the rain and make something very special. But there are times when we will just need to reschedule and regroup. We will always need to remain flexible.

What if I just want one family portrait?

I'm occasionally asked why it takes thirty minutes for a half session and longer for a full session? If you only want one good picture of your family, why not five minutes, in, out, done? The truth is, to get a great shot, a memorable picture, we have to spend some time together, you have to feel relaxed, and I have to take a lot of photos that you will never see. Some of your favorite pictures will come from those in-the-fun candid moments that you didn't anticipate. Trust the process, I believe you will be happier with the results.

final thoughts

come prepared to have fun

Don't have a fight with your spouse or children on the car ride to the session, save that for the ride home. Though I'm partially joking, and I hope you have a great time and the ride home is fabulous, the truth is that your emotions will show in your pictures. Nothing is harder to overcome than a sullen child angry that you are making them wear an outfit that feels uncomfortable, or an anxious family member not prepared to find bugs in the field where we are playing. If you have small children, or a large party, it is always best to prepare everyone in advance for the experience. This is going to be a special day that results in special photographs; we want to set it up for success.
